Stockholm-based Tapper is a fashion-tech brand that creates innovative accessories for the tech products that you use daily. Tapper launched at the iconic concept store colette in Paris on the 1st of March 2017.
Today Tapper is available at some of the top fashion, concept and department stores globally such as Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's in the US, Selfridges and Flannels in the UK, Legacy, Kith and Le Bon Marché in Paris, SKP Beijing in China, Estnation in Tokyo and Rare Market in Seoul.
Tapper’s debut product is a lamb leather strap with brass or stainless steel details, designed to magnetically snap your AirPods around your neck when not in use.
The idea of a strap for the AirPods came into being on the 7th of September 2016, the same day as the Apple AirPods were announced for the first time. Robin studied at Stockholm School of Economics and read about the new kind of wireless in-ears that were to disrupt the modern earphone industry.
The following days the AirPods went viral in social media. Some of the comments and memes being based around on how easy they will be to lose. Robin understood that there would be a demand for the strap, helping to keep your AirPods safe in a smart and elegant way. On the 10th of September Robin and a few friends sat overnight, the following morning they launched the Tapper website with the first 3D-renderings of the Tapper AirPod Strap. Tapper was immediately mentioned in e.g. CNN Money, MacWorld and Product Hunt. As is common in the world of innovation soon there were several other AirPod straps popping up in the months following Apple's release. However, Tapper was one of the first players, which made Tapper succeed in positioning themselves as "The World's First Premium AirPod Strap”.
In March 2017 Robin's friend Robert from the Swedish sneaker label Eytys joined the company. Both with backgrounds in the fashion industry they share a passion for innovation and design. ”I’ve always been interested in fashion and nice aesthetics. Growing up within the late 90’s, technology and its development was always present for me”, says Robert.
The name Tapper comes from the Swedish word for being brave or courageous. Inspiration for the name was derived from Apple's senior vice president, Phil Schiller, saying that the decision to lose the headphone jack wasn't about a wireless future, it was essentially about being brave.
